Op-Ed Columnist - Whirling Dervish Drivers - NYTimes.com

Op-Ed Columnist - Whirling Dervish Drivers - NYTimes.com: "Studies show that drivers who talk on cellphones are four times more likely to be in a crash and drive just as erratically as people with an 0.08 percent blood-alcohol level.

In one study cited by the highway safety agency, “drivers found it easier to drive drunk than to drive while using a phone, even when it was hands-free.”"

Wow. Heaven forbid I cross paths with a drunk driver who is using a cell phone.

I guess driving should be just that - the task at hand - and everything else, including phone calls, should wait.

I know I get distracted by them. Freaked myself out a few years ago when I realized how much, and try to avoid using them. One of those talking on phone, driving, then wondering where I was, only to realize I was going in the opposite direction as I had meant to be, for about 10 minutes...

I know people who can text and drive! Oh man.
